If you felt hot last month then you were right as October was almost 2°C warmer than average!
A temperature distribution map for October 2013 reveals that most of western Europe was hotter than average, including the Maltese Islands with the mean monthly temperature of 23.0°C being almost 2°C above the norm!
Although October 2013 was NOT the hottest October on record, a new record was broken on the 14th of the month with a high of 33.9°C! This was the highest ever recorded temperature in October and broke the previous records set in 1991 and 1999 by 0.4°C.
October 2013 was also a very dry month with only 17.0mm compared to the average of 74.4mm. There were six days of rain and three days with lightning/thunder compared to the average of nine and five days respectively. The wettest October ever was in 2010 with 240.0mm while the driest was in 2001 with a mere 0.8mm!
