A severe thunderstorm is still possible overnight

A severe thunderstorm is still possible overnight as thundery rain showers, heavy in some places, are slowly but surely moving towards the Maltese Islands (see inside red circle on latest lightning alert map) with the closest lightning strikes being about 50 kilometres away at the moment. The main threat remains heavy rain showers and potential flooding in the usual low-lying areas but large hail, severe wind gusts and an isolated tornado event cannot be ruled out with such storms.
