July was the SECOND coolest on record

july-temperaturesJuly 2013 was the SECOND coolest on record with the average monthly temperature of 26.1°C being 1.1°C below average and was the second coolest July on record. The average maximum monthly temperature of 30.2°C was 1.3°C below average while the average minimum monthly temperature of 21.9°C was 1.0°C below average.

The coolest July ever was in 1992 with a mean monthly temperature of 25.4°C while the hottest ever was in 2003 with a mean monthly temperature of 29.3°C.

The hottest day in July 2013 was on the 29th with a high of 34.9°C. The coolest night in July 2013 was on the 2nd and on the 3rd with a low of 17.9°C. The hottest July temperature ever recorded was 43.1°C in 1988 while the coldest was 17.4°C on the 1st July 1992.

The monthly rainfall total was nil with no sign of any rain at all. There were various completely dry Julys over the years. The wettest July ever was in 1990 with 2.0mm.

The wind blew mainly from the west with an average wind speed at Zebbug Malta of 8.0km/h. The strongest gust at Zebbug Malta was of 50.0km/h on the 30th from a northwesterly direction as a low pressure system over Italy moved rapidly eastwards. A higher gust of 65.0km/h was recorded at Mellieha on the same day.

The mean monthly sea-level pressure was 1016.2hPa, with the highest of 1019.8hPa on the 1st and the lowest of 1011.5hPa on the 11th.
