Morning Glory cloud formed over the Maltese Islands

252351_10151499898172772_1394490639_nA Morning Glory cloud formed over the Maltese Islands early this morning. The Morning Glory cloud is a rare meteorological phenomenon occasionally observed in different locations around the world.

It is not clearly understood how or why they form because they are so rare. However, it seems they are associated with the onset of sea breezes. Also, PLEASE note that this is NOT called a roll cloud as roll clouds are associated with thunderstorms! A big thanks to Manolo Mantovani for this photo taken at Qawra.
