UPDATED GALE WATCH WITH VERY ROUGH SEAS AROUND 5 METRES HIGH – WARNING FOR NORTHEAST/EAST COAST INCLUDING MARSALFORN, MGARR HARBOUR, MARSASCALA, ST PAUL’S BAY, SLIEMA AND GRAND HARBOUR. PLEASE SHARE!

The contrast between a high pressure system over Europe and an intensifying area of low pressure over northern Africa will create a strong airflow over the Maltese Islands till Thursday.

For the Maltese Islands, this means ENE to E Force 7 winds later today increasing to Gale Force 8 winds tonight till around noon on Thursday with maximum significant wave heights of around 5 metres from an easterly direction tomorrow Wednesday and on Thursday.

This will definitely be dangerous for boats sailing or berthed along the coast at Qbajjar, Xwejni Bay, Marsalforn Bay, Ramla Bay, San Blas Bay, Dahlet Qorrot, Hondoq ir-Rummien Bay, Mgarr Harbour, Mgarr ix-Xini, Mellieha Bay, St Paul’s Bay, Qawra, White Rocks, Bahar ic- Caghaq, St Julian’s, St George’s Bay, Sliema, Grand Harbour, Xghajra, Marsaskala, St Thomas Bay, Marsaxlokk and Birzebbuga. Some damage could also occur inland, especially on hilltops and exposed areas.

The weather over the next three days or so will be partly to mostly cloudy and windy with some light rain or isolated rain showers in places. Temperatures will go up to around 19C to 20C during the day and around 17C at night. More rain showers are expected on Friday too.
